Deepika Padukone joins JNU protest, proves that she is not only bold in ‘Reel’ but also bold in ‘Real’

Deepika Padukone visits JNU, stands with students attacked on Sunday.  Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Tuesday evening to express solidarity with students who were attacked by masked mobs on Sunday. She is the biggest of the mainstream Bollywood stars who have supported the cause.

 According to reports, Deepika Padukone went to JNU at around 7.30 pm and attended a protest meeting by students. Dressed simply in black with her hair swept back into a bun, Padukone was flanked by her publicist and her manager. She left without saying a word after around 15 minutes, leaving the rest of the world to interpret her actions. Deepika Padukone gets emotional as she joins the JNU protests in Delhi.

Deepika was seen standing by JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, who was hit on the head in the violence reported on JNU campus on Sunday night. 

In an interview with NDTV speaking about the protests, Deepika said that she was proud “people are not scared, I feel proud that we are not scared. I think to be able to express ourselves. I think the fact we are thinking about this and about the future of our country… it is nice to see people are coming out on the streets to voice this and express [themselves]. Because if we want to see change, this is very important,”
